Saving in Style Vol. 5

We’ve spoken a lot about checking out Village Style in the past few posts for all of the events on your calendar this summer (if you missed it, check out the posts here and here), but we don’t want to pigeon hole the consignment experience to simply event wear. While it’s an excellent place to shop for all of the special occasions on your horizon, let’s not overlook the possibilities for ramping up your daily game. I find I get into clothing ruts. I have maybe three outfits I tend to cycle through at any given time “What should I wear? IDK… I guess I’ll wear this… again…” Sometimes all it takes is one new piece to spice things up, but why settle for one when you can spend the same amount of money and get one or even two high quality outfits for the same price as one new item? And oftentimes pieces are available new with tags! When we stopped into Village Style recently with our event mission in mind, we were severely distracted and blown away by the AMAZING inventory of summer staples. We put together four looks from Shelly’s shop to help you sail through summer in style. We are excited to share what we found and also to hear your experiences! Share your savings and Village Style finds with us and use the #savinginstyle!

Look One

Outfit Details

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer dress (Retail price: $98-128)  VS price: $34
Jacket: Kenneth Cole aqua anorak (Retail price: $59), VS price: $18
Shoes: Born sandals with cork wedge, (Retail price: $80), VS price: $26

TOTAL: $132

I am a lifelong Lilly Lover. The playful prints spell summer fun, and the easy silhouettes are comfortable and carefree. Village Style regularly has multiple Lilly options on hand, and we love this dress ($34)! We paired it with an aqua Kenneth Cole Anorak ($18) to compliment the pallet and provide a beautiful layering piece for boating fun, sunshowers, or chilly evenings. The Born Sandals ($26) are not the best choice for a day of walking, but for a casual date night out they are the perfect touch. The Urban Originals tote ($36) carries all of your necessities for a day at the beach or pool, and the watch ($10) adds a subtle nautical flair, which is always fun for Maine in the summertime!

Look Two

Outfit Details

Top: Ann Taylor sleeveless high neck pinstripe top  NWT (Retail price: $59) VS price: $19
Pants: Talbots Newport cropped pant (Retail price: $79-99)  VS price: $18
Bag: Kate Spade small crossbody NWT (Retail price: $195) VS price: $68
Shoes: Ralph Lauren peep toe espadrille (Retail price: $69-89)  VS price: $24
Earrings: J. Jill silver hoops   (Retails for: $29) VS price: $8

TOTAL: $137

This outfit spells casual elegance. The Ann Taylor sleeveless high neck top ($19) can be office appropriate, perfect for a lunch, or just to help you feel put together as you bop about your day. We paired it with the white Talbots Newport Cropped Pant ($18) for a polished look. The Kate Spade Crossbody bag ($68) and Ralph Lauren shoes ($24) elevate the outfit, but you could easily dress it down with a loafer, flat, or sandal.

Look Three

Outfit Details

Top: Talbots flowy top/coverup NWT (Retail price: $49),  VS price: $19
Pants: Talbots Newport cropped pant (Retail price: $79-99)  VS price: $18
Shoes: Ralph Lauren peep toe espadrille (Retail price: $69-89)  VS price: $24
Bag: Kate Spade small crossbody NWT (Retail price: $195) VS price: $68
Earrings: J. Jill silver hoops  (Retails for: $29), VS price: $8

TOTAL: $137

We LOVED this flowy top from Talbots ($19). This sheer piece could easily function as a beach coverup, or, when paired with a white slack ($18), fancy bag ($68) and heel ($24) as we have done here will allow you to saunter in chicness anywhere. I was worried the poncho-like shape would be wildly unflattering, but I think the lightness of the fabric helped it drape nicely across my body, fluidly flow with me as I move, and it fluttered beautifully in the breeze. Color me converted. Now I’m curious to try a similar shape in cashmere this fall…

Look Four

Outfit Details

Top: Lilla P pink 3/4 sleeve tee (Retail price: $65) VS price: $16
Skort: Golftini skort (Retail price: $60-120) VS clearance price: $12
Shoes: Cole Haan orange sandals (Retail price: $60-100)  VS price: $24
Earrings: J. Jill silver hoops  (Retails for: $29), VS price: $8

TOTAL: $60

I do not think I have worn a skort since I was in grade school, and I have absolutely no idea why. This is seriously the best invention ever. This Golftini skort ($12)  has matching shorts tucked under the skirt which offers complete freedom of movement as you chase kids on the playground or in the yard. We drew from the skort color pallet and paired it with a Lilla P pink tee ($16) and a pair or Cole Haan orange sandals ($24) to complete this classic summer look.

We hope you enjoy a wonderful week of summer adventure to celebrate July 4th! Don’t forget to share your outfits with us! We love hearing from you!
